Mykonos has attractions spread all over the island — but that doesn’t mean you must rent a car. With a smart mix of local buses + the water taxi (plus a few local tips), you can explore a big part of the island easily and without stress.
If you’re staying in Agios Ioannis, there’s a great bonus: the bus stop is right outside the entrance of Lithos by Spyros & Flora.
⸻
1) The local bus: the most practical & budget-friendly option
The bus serving our area connects Mykonos Town (Fabrika) - Ornos - Agios Ioannis. Once you understand the route and a couple of “tricks”, it’s very straightforward.
The route (step by step)
• It starts from Fabrika (Mykonos Town), the main bus station.
• It goes first to Ornos (with a stop near the area/beach).
• Then it continues to Agios Ioannis and stops right outside our hotel.
• It goes all the way to the end of the road, near the small harbour and the church of Agios Ioannis.
• Then it turns around and heads back to Fabrika (Town).
Tip #1: where to catch it so you don’t miss it
On the return route (after the turnaround), the bus may pass by the hotel again but it doesn’t always stop.
So, if you’re catching the bus from the hotel, it’s usually safest to take it when it’s coming from Mykonos Town (Fabrika) towards Agios Ioannis.
Tip #2: Ornos “final stop” note
On some routes, when heading back towards Fabrika, the bus may drop you at a point about a 5-minute walk from Ornos beach (flat and easy). It’s useful to keep in mind if you plan to move between Ornos and Town without confusion.
Ticket & payment
• €2 per person / per trip
• Tickets are bought directly from the driver
• Payment is cash only (smaller notes are always easier)
Ride time
The ride from the hotel to Mykonos Town usually takes around 20-25 minutes, depending on traffic.
⸻
Extra tip: there is often a second bus departure point in Town
Besides Fabrika, there is often another bus departure point on the Old Port side of Town, serving routes towards New Port, Agios Stefanos, Ano Mera, Kalafatis, Elia.
Because stops and timetables can change during the season, it’s always a good idea to quickly check the day’s schedule.
⸻
2) From Fabrika to the south beaches (by bus)
From Fabrika, you can also catch buses to popular south beaches such as:
Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise.
⸻
3) Water taxi: the most scenic way to do “beach hopping”
A beautiful way to experience Mykonos from the sea is the water taxi — small traditional boats run by experienced local captains.
Water taxi route
It starts from Ornos and stops in this order:
Platis Gialos → Paraga → Paradise → Super Paradise → Agrari → Elia
Tickets & cost
• There is a ticket kiosk at Ornos beach
• Cost: €20 per person
• It works as a day pass (unlimited use throughout the day)
Duration
Ornos → Elia usually takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.
⸻
4) Beach hopping on foot (if you prefer staying on land)
If travelling by boat doesn’t really suit you — or you simply want a scenic seaside walk — here’s a lovely route we often recommend:
Platis Gialos → Agia Anna → Paraga → (optional) Paradise
How it works
1. Take the bus to Platis Gialos and walk down to the beach.
2. Walk along the beach to the far end.
3. A small footpath leads you to Agia Anna.
4. Continue to Paraga, and if you feel like it, walk on to Paradise.
5. From there, you can easily return by bus.
Best time to go
• Earlier in the day for a more relaxed vibe.
• Late afternoon if you enjoy a livelier atmosphere, as Paraga & Paradise become more “party” later on.
Tips
• Bring water and wear comfortable shoes.
• A light windbreaker helps on windy days.

5) Taxis, apps & private transfers (and we’re happy to help)
Licensed taxis are limited on Mykonos and can be in high demand during peak season. That’s why many visitors use ride apps or private transfers, especially for places and times not easily covered by bus or water taxi.
If you’d like, we’ll be very happy to help you choose the best option for your schedule (arrival/departure times, beaches you want to visit, etc.). Just message us on WhatsApp or email and we’ll guide you.
